ORONO, Minn -- The Orono Spartans had won 10 games in a row and posted an 11-1 record prior to meeting Chaska on Tuesday.
The Hawks were coming off of a hard-fought victory against neighbor Eden Prairie earlier in the month.
Chaska jumped out to an early lead, locking down Orono junior Jarvis Thomas, who is getting national attention. The Hawks were headlined by Alex Strazzanti who scored a season high 19 points in his effort. Myles Hanson also contributed with 17 points and Cole Nicholson finished with 13. Two of Nicholson’s points were free-throws that helped secure the game for Chaska.
Chaska played outstanding defense against the Spartans, forcing them to shoot only 17/51 from the field. Max Bjorklund led scoring effort for Orono with 19 points. He shot 6 for 16 on the night.
The aforementioned Jarvis Thomas had a quiet double-double, but it was not nearly enough to bring the Spartans their 11th straight win.
Chaska won the game thanks to Nicholson’s free throws, the final score was 63-61.
Chaska’s next game is on Thursday at Bloomington Kennedy.
